Silicon Valley/Santa Clara DMO, Inc. dba Discover Santa Clara® is a non-profit 501(c)(6) organization funded by the Santa Clara Tourism Improvement District (SCTID) and serves as the owner’s association for the SCTID and the official destination marketing organization for Santa Clara, California.

Discover Santa Clara® is charged with the marketing, promotion, and selling of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara Convention Center as the destination of choice to national, regional, and local organizations and as a premium destination for conventions, meetings, trade shows, athletics, and group leisure events.

Discover Santa Clara® strives to:

  • Raise awareness about Santa Clara, California as a Silicon Valley, Bay Area, and Northern California destination for overnight visitation.
  • Increase overnight visitation to Santa Clara hotels and destination, focusing on filling lower occupancy time periods.
  • Generate new convention/meetings/citywide business through the development of a competitive citywide package, featuring Santa Clara hotels and the Santa Clara Convention Center.
  • Outreach to meeting/event planners and other travel buyers, developing prospects for new business.

Santa Clara Tourism Improvement District

The Santa Clara Tourism Improvement District (SCTID) is a benefit assessment district established to fund sales and marketing promotion efforts for lodging businesses within the SCTID established boundaries.

The SCTID meet every 4th Tuesday of the month unless otherwise noted.

The Santa Clara Tourism Improvement District, initially formed in 2005 pursuant to the Parking and Business Improvement Law of 1989, includes 11 hotels near the Santa Clara Convention Center: AC Hotel Santa Clara, Avatar Hotel, Delta Hotel by Marriott, Element Santa Clara, Embassy Suites, Hilton Santa Clara, Hyatt Centric Silicon Valley, Hyatt House, Hyatt Regency, Marriott Santa Clara, and TownePlace Suites by Marriott.

On May 25, 2021, at the request of the lodging businesses, Santa Clara City Council voted to establish the Santa Clara Tourism Improvement District (SCTID) pursuant to the Property and Business Improvement District Law of 1994, Streets and Highways Code Section 36600 et seq. to fund sales and marketing efforts for convention and group business travel. The SCTID was formed for a five-year term, July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2026.

SCTID activities are funded by a 2.0% assessment on gross short-term (30 days or less) room rentals (10 rooms or more) on lodging businesses and ensures funding for Discover Santa ClaraTM.
